Police Intelligence and Operations boss Charles Kataratambi has been sacked for reportedly frustrating investigations into the alleged bank fraud case involving Kampala MP Mohammed Nsereko.
Kataratambi has, with immediate effect, been replaced with ACP Fred Enanga, formerly with CID.
Deputy Police publicist Vincent Ssekate has confirmed the development.
“Yes, it is true Kataratambi has been replaced,” Ssekate told Chimpreports news desk via telephone.
“But these are normal changes in the Police Force,” he added.
However, impeccable police sources say police boss Lt Gen Kale Kayihura was shocked by Kataratambi’s deliberate attempts to twist the course of investigation with the view of shielding Nsereko in a case where is suspected of attempting to defraud Crane Bank shs290m.
“Kayihura was told that Kataratambi’s conduct, especially in refusing to fully cooperate with CID detectives in investigating matter, had sparked fears that the police intelligence boss had been compromised,” said a senior policesource who preferred anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to press.
The development is the latest twist in a case that could add misery to the fiery NRM legislator.
More details from State house indicate that Nsereko’s file has been sent to President Yoweri Museveni’s office for perusal.
This followed complaints by Nsereko that the case was politically-motivated.
