Several free social networking and dating websites are finding mainstream acceptance today.
Internet dating or online dating is a personal introductory system whereby individuals can find and contact each other over the Internet to arrange a date, usually with the objective of developing a personal, romantic, or sexual relationship.
Online dating is growing each day into a big industry. Applications have even been developed where singles discover each other through shared interests and personality profiles.
However, I sometimes wonder if online dating in Uganda really exists. Searching for a down to earth, free flowing spirit (I mean the opposite gender) online in Uganda is a hustle.
It’s like looking for that one needle in a hay stake. Believe me, I have searched and ended up picking out the “crazies”.
It blows one’s mind to find their date’s facial complexion is a shadow of the profile pictures used on the site which includes their daughters, cousins, cousin of their cousin’s cousin or 18 year old version of themselves.
In a recent story circulating on social media, a 32 year old woman who was beaten by her date for looking different from the profile pictures she posted on a social network WeChat.
This has made me to believe that online dating in Uganda is a figment of one’s imagination that is believed by many people with no truth to its existence making it a myth.
