China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) signed a two billion dollar commercial contract with Malaysian Railway Company (MRL) for the second phase of the Eastern coast railway in Malaysia.
The eastern part of the Malaysian coastal railway project is an extension of the first phase of the project, with total length of 81 km,connecting the Port Klang in West Coast with the Portland and areas in the East Coast. It constitutestheeconomic and transportation corridor between East and West Malaysia, which will greatly promote the development ofdomestictrade, logistics, import, export, tourism and other industries which will improve people’s lives.
The signing ceremony which took place in Beijing on May 13th was attended by the Chairman of CCCC, Mr. Liu Qitao, Mr Sun Ziyu, the Vice President who signed the contract on behalf of CCCC and it was witnessed by theMalaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who spoke highly of CCCC’s work on the Eastern coast railway in Malaysia
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Najib said, “This Eastern coastal railway isthe most important infrastructure construction project Malaysia has undertaken in years; it will benefit the Malaysian people after its completion, and it will serve as another landmark project to witness the friendship between China and Malaysia, This project will play an important role in the economic and social development of Malaysia..”
Najib also hopes that the plan to build a training center by China in partnership with Malaysia will be implemented as soon as possible and he is willing to accept the invitation to attend the signing ceremony.
Mr. Liu Qitao, the Chairman of CCCC, expressed his thanks to the Malaysian government and people for their long-term support and trust in CCCC.
“CCCC will integrate the best resources of design, consultation and construction to build thisrailway project as the symbol project under “The Belt and Road”initiative with close cooperation from Malaysia partners. CCCC will further increase investment in the Malaysian market, and actively participate in the Malaysian infrastructure investment and construction.” Mr. Liu added.
The Malaysian Coastal Railway Project is the largest overseas engineering project currently signed by CCCC and is the largest economic and trade cooperation project between China and Malaysia up to date.
