Following their acquisition of Sameer Agriculture and Livestock, Brookside Dairy Limited the current producers of the Fresh dairy milk has intensified their investment in the Uganda milk business.
In addition to the investment of $14 million (about Shs50,232,000,000) in upgrading its Kampala milk processing plant, the company has acquired over ten milk tank trucks.
The trucks arrived in the country last week and will hit the road soon.
Their arrival came on the heels of increased milk production in Uganda thanks to the training which the company has been giving to farmers. Fresh Dairy in 2015 paid farmers Shs50 billion and also boosted the capacity of its raw milk cooling stations in the country to enable them receive more milk from farmers.
Indeed this increased milk production as by June last year, Fresh Dairy’s milk production had risen to more than 500,000 litres per day.
This saw the value of our exports rise to $10 million (Shs33.6billion), thereby putting milk as a critical foreign exchange earner for the country.
