Have you ever noticed this? Is this headline true in the first place?
After all, one has always heard that – hard work will eventually pay off!
But just look around you; the cleaners, the security guards, the traffic officers, the carpenters, nannies, mechanics, barbers, craft artists, garbage collectors, builders, fishermen, farm workers especially those who dig for money, people who cut timber… among so many other jobs.
Should we say that perhaps its because they did not go to school?? But some of these people are actually educated!
Most of our parents and leaders say that being educated is the way to get ahead in life.
But honestly speaking, how many well-educated people acknowledged as ‘smart’ at least according to their diploma or degree, do you personally know, who are really not doing quite as well in life as their education might suggest?
Personally, I have always wondered what the worth of a degree is – at least here in Uganda, in this current era.
Year in, year out, there are thousands of graduates from our universities but the only thing they will tell you is – there are no jobs.
Most of them, then end up doing work that is not connected at all with what they studied. And most of the jobs they opt for, consume a lot of time and energy but the pay is not worth it.
Surely the answer to our question can not be failure to attain ‘a diploma or degree’ …
I mean, even one of the richest men on this planet – Bill gates, dropped out of Harvard University; but he is so rich that he can buy some nations if he wanted.
Perhaps its having business knowledge and marketing knowledge that puts the money in the pockets. What is your view?
