So, the Uganda cranes football team lost for the second time, to the same team in a space of four days? It is surprising that you appear to be depressed by the loss.
But not me! Hoping for a win in Lome, Togo, after failing to secure either a win or a draw at Namboole would only be a miracle of Lazrus rising from the Uganda is deep into the second month of the new financial year and nobody seems to have noticed!
Yeah, yeah, I say so, not because I am not patriotic but simply because I am a realist. I rarely believe in miracles. But, though, just like you, I am bothered by cranes failure to go through.
In these recent years, the Cranes team has always started most of the campaigns well only to slip in the last matches.
And I know some of you have already started “Micho Out”, but the problem can’t be Micho…….he already found the team losing. And perhaps at a higher rate than in his reign! He shouldn’t be blamed because he has simply done his best by adding what he has onto the National team.
After Wednesday’s loss, I had a chat with one of my friends, Peter, a cranes die-hard. When I asked him what he thought was wrong with our team to make it has fail to even qualify for the African Cup of nations, he told me off.
“Change the topic. I am fed up of this; if this team does this, and the other does that and our team does this, we will go through. I am stressed and I don’t think there is any other problem apart for the Football governing body in the country,” he said.
I could indeed feel pain he was going through because it was the first time I was seeing him in such a mood.
But why would one reach such an extent? If you feel like you are heading towards this way, please, there are some other ways through which you can be both patriotic and happy.
How about if you became a fan of Uganda Waragi?! Would you still be stressed? The answer is simply “NO”! I have never seen a stressed drunkard or is it a person who has downed bottles of waragi?
Most of these are always happy, at least those I meet while on my night outs.
And looks like its fan base has already started swelling that is if I am to go with what I saw in town last night. Different fans became more than patriotic when they waged a war against the different bottles, shortly after the loss.
To the makers of the alcoholic drink, all you need is to set up a Namboole-like place, where your fans can gather to express their patriotism. You can print T-shirts which will be worn by your fans so we can hear people sing; We Go We Go……….as they head towards the venue.
With this kind of patriotism, fans will have no one to blame apart from their pockets. Those in support of this new found project, We Go We Go….
